As the manufacturing industry emerged as one of Minnesota's top industries in the 1950’s Fremont Gruss Sr. saw an opportunity to provide products for the growing metal preparations field. In 1954, he founded Fremont Industries in Richfield, Minnesota. Following its early success the company later expanded to include products for individual consumers, the dairy industry and the glass industry.
By 1965, Fremont had outgrown its Richfield space and moved both its manufacturing facilities and laboratories to Shakopee, Minnesota. Two years later, the company launched its water products group.
Mark Gruss, Fremont’s eldest son, took over managing the company in 1976. Fremont grew from a small, local business with 35 employees to a large regional company employing over 100 employees and serving over 2500 customers.
In the 1990's Fremont expanded its product lines into new and exciting areas, as well as made great achievements in both sustainable and quality initiatives. Fremont first became ISO quality certified in 1995 and has actively upheld this standard to today.
As the economy and business landscape changed in the years to come Fremont Industries focused on growing and strengthening its water management operation. In 2004, the company sold the metal preparations business and, in the following year, acquired Landmark Water in Olathe, Kansas.
The Olathe location became Fremont’s regional office in order to better serve markets in the central and southern United States.
Now, in 2017, Fremont continues to thrive after six decades in business. The company serves 18 U.S. states and offers international shipments to customers abroad. It is an exciting time for Fremont as the company actively grows its product line, adds employees and expands into new markets.
